Anger!  How do we overcome it when parenting our children.  We love them and want what is best for them but how can we control ourselves in the heat of the moment.  Several prophets taught us how we should be and control our anger over the span of many years. The following scripture was shared and it really stood out to me.  I reads "Wherefore, I say unto you, that ye ought to forgive one another; for he that forgiveth not his brother his trespasses standeth condemned before the Lord; for there remaineth in him the greater sin. L the Lord, will forgive whom I will forgive, but of you it is required to forgive all men." (Doctrine and Covenants 64:9-10) This stood out to me because I had never specifically thought about forgiving my child.  Sure maybe when they broke something of course, but sometimes when they struggle with a particular issue and make the same mistake several times how likely are we to forgive them seventy times seven. 

One of my favorite quotes is from Brigham Young, he stated, "I will here say to parents, that kind words and loving actions towards children, will subdue their uneducated natures a great deal better than the rod, or, in other words, than physical punishment. . . . Children who have lived in the sunbeams of parental kindness and affection, when made aware of a parents displeasure, and receive a kind reproof from parental lips, are more thoroughly chastened, than by any physical punishment that could be applied to their persons."

I love how Gordon B. Hinckley demonstrated Heavenly Father's protective side when he said, "Never forget that these little ones are the sons and daughters of God and that yours is a custodial relationship to them, that he was a parent before you were parents and that he has not relinquished his parental rights or interest in these little ones. Now, love them, take care of them. Fathers, control your tempers, now and in all the years to come. Mothers, control your voices, keep them down. Rear your children in love, in the nurture and admonition of the Lord."
